Brocade was a historical designation of a generally silk fabric with a distinctive jacquard (woven) pattern. The patterns were interwoven with threads twisted with precious metal fibers - silver or gold. However, the brocade label was subsequently used for any fabric with a abundant pattern. The brocade production technique comes from the Near East.
